Student’s Hostel della Ghiara
The hostel and the cloister next to the Basilica della Ghiara: hospitality, catering and events in the same historic complex.
The assignment
In 2011, through a negotiated procedure, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia granted us the concession of the whole building next to the Basilica della Ghiara: the hostel, opened in 2000, and the cloister spaces. The concession runs for twenty years.
A hostel and a place for the city
In 2012 we opened Al Chiostro della Ghiara in the cloister: a restaurant in the evening from March to October, café and bar by day, banquets, weddings, parties, concerts, exhibitions and markets. In its first season, from May to September 2012, the cloister hosted more than a hundred events.
A hospitality building thus became a place used by the whole city, not only by the people who sleep there.
